Methodology
Quantum Workplace evaluates employees' perceptions of 11 types of recognition, including praise from senior leadership, access to new learning or training opportunities, a personalized gift, and a pay increase. The survey uses a semantic differential scale to determine if employees received too little, too much, or the right amount of each recognition item. Employees who said they received the right amount of recognition were considered satisfied. All surveys were collected from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. A total of nearly 400,000 employees took the survey. In order to be considered for this data set, each city must have held a Best Places to Work contest with more than 70 participating organizations.
