Accretive Helping Hands Golf Outing Raises $150,000 for Local Service Organization

Chicago, IL, July 10, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Accretive Helping Hands, the not-for-profit organization founded by Accretive Health employees, recently hosted its fifth annual St. Joseph Services Golf Outing. The event raised $150,000 to benefit St. Joseph Services, an organization serving the needs of the poor in the city of Chicago. The fundraiser was held in June, at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington, Ill.

Accretive Health annually supports a golf tournament and outdoor games, followed by a live auction. This year, more than 80 participants enjoyed a full day of events and dinner.

“We had great weather, a successful auction, and a lot of fun,” said Chris Hartemayer, a vice president at Accretive Health and president of Accretive Helping Hands. The auction raised more than $45,000. Accretive Health employees and their associates donate all items for the auction.

“The generosity of participants and a charitable contribution from Accretive Health is making it possible to help St. Joseph Services grow their mission,” he added. “This annual event wouldn’t be possible with the kindness of so many Accretive Health employees who are dedicated to helping St. Joseph Services in any way they can.”

The proceeds from the fundraiser help support educational services for more than 600 adults and children of Chicago’s Humboldt Park and Austin neighborhoods. For many in these stressed Chicago neighborhoods, education is the key to helping them overcome the forces that keep them in poverty. After school programs, weekend sports, tutoring, and camps are held throughout the year for over 350 children and young adults. Adult literacy, computer literacy, job skills training, and English as a Second Language classes for adults are offered for more than 250 adults. St. Joseph Services accomplishes much of this through engagement of over 350 trained literacy volunteers. Many Accretive Health employees share their talents to tutor children on the weekends or help teach English to adults in the evenings.

“I am very appreciative for the hard work and dedication of our employees worldwide as we endeavor to serve our clients and the communities where they live,” Accretive Health president and chief executive officer Steve Schuckenbrock said. “Accretive Helping Hands enables programs that include providing food, shelter, clothing and healthcare services to struggling families. We are especially proud of our long standing relationship with St Joseph Services in Chicago where we have contributed over $700,000.”

The annual golf outing is one of the most effective fundraising events that Accretive Helping Hands hosts to benefit St. Joseph Services. Accretive Health became sponsors of the charitable work being achieved by the community organization in 2008 when a Junior Board was created to help St. Joseph Services grow their mission.

“Their work in the Austin, Avondale and Humboldt Park communities to strengthen and develop others is truly reflective of our own mission,” Hartemayer added.

About St. Joseph Services
St. Joseph Services was founded in 2001 by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul who have been serving the needs of the poor in the city of Chicago since 1861. Service sites were located in the underserved communities of Humboldt Park and Austin. St. Joseph Services’ vision is that collaborations are the most cost effective way to help more people. Currently partnering with St. Angela School, Josephinum Academy, Resurrection Parish, St. Aloysius Parish and other community partners, they now offer a range of programming to the youth and families of the communities they serve and engage a large corps of talented volunteers for direct service.
