I-5 Publishing and Cat Fancy Magazine Honors Felines at Benefit for Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals

Hosted by Matilda the Algonquin Cat with Special Guests: Tara the Hero Cat, Vito Vincent and a Feline Fashion Show by Celebrity Cat Fashion Designer Ada Nieves

Irvine, CA, July 30, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Cat Fancy magazine, the world’s leading cat publication is proud to sponsor the annual Matilda the Algonquin Cat birthday celebration and fundraiser. This year’s theme is a salute to Broadway with Matilda herself hosting the ceremonies which takes place at the historic Algonquin Hotel Autograph Collection on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from the evening will go to benefit the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a non-profit organization committed to seeing NYC transformed into a no-kill community.

Matilda the Algonquin Cat is a permanent resident of The Algonquin Hotel Autograph Collection, located at 59 West 44, New York, NY 10036. For years, Matilda has overseen the comings and goings of all who enter the famed hotel. Her birthday celebration gives The Algonquin, Cat Fancy and other sponsors a chance to help raise needed funds for homeless animals in the New York area.

“It means so much to us at Cat Fancy to be part of Matilda’s birthday bash and fundraiser,” says Susan Logan, editor of Cat Fancy. “Not only does it give us a chance to celebrate these remarkable cats, but it allows us to raise awareness and much-needed funds for homeless cats and dogs. Money raised at events such as this makes a difference in getting us closer to a day when every pet has a loving home and kill-shelters are a thing of the past.”

The Broadway-themed event will include:
· Cat adoptions
· Feline fashion show
· Reception
· Celebrity cats
· Raffles
· And more!

Cat adoptions will be open to the public and take place on the day of the event in front of The Algonquin Hotel Autograph Collection at the Alliance Adoption Van. Attendees will also be treated to a Broadway-themed feline fashion show with original costumes designed by renowned pet fashion designer Ada Nieves.

Along with the festivities, Matilda welcomes feline special guests including:
Tara the Hero Cat: When 4-year old Jeremy Triantafilo was attacked by a neighbor’s dog, the family’s rescued tabby Tara, fearlessly chased the canine off the property and away from her young human companion. Captured by home-surveillance cameras, the video garnered more than 22 million views on YouTube. Showing little regard for her own safety, the feline became known overnight as Tara the Hero Cat. Tara will be featured in the October 2014 issue of Cat Fancy with a rare interview and exclusive photos.

Vito Vincent: When Vito Vincent was just 7-months old his owners gave him up to a shelter in Brooklyn, NY. After moving from various rescue and adoption centers, Vito was adopted and the rest, as they say, is history. Since moving with his adopted family to SoHo, NY, Vito Vincent’s calm personality and easy-to-train attribute has made him a star on both small screen and stage. Some of Vito Vincent’s roles include 30 Rock and Colbert Nation. He’s currently starring on Broadway in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

“We are thrilled to be able to honor these three special cats,” adds Logan. “Tara for her brave actions that saved a boy’s life, Vito for his talent as a feline performer and Matilda for hosting a party that benefits cats and dogs who are in need of homes. We’re thankful to the beautiful Algonquin Hotel Autograph Collection for opening their doors and people’s hearts every year to help animals in need.”

To celebrate Matilda’s birthday and support the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, guests can purchase tickets for a minimum $40 entrance donation (additional donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated). Reservations are strongly recommended as seating is limited. For tickets and other information, contact Alice de Almeida at 212-419-9197. Pets are not allowed at the event.

A 501(c) (3) non-profit charity, is the sole umbrella organization for animal welfare in NYC. Since 2003, they have been working with a coalition of 150+ rescue groups and shelters to find homes for thousands of New York City’s dogs and cats. Their goal is to transform New York City into a no-kill community by 2015, where no dogs or cats of reasonable health or temperament are killed simply because they do not have homes.

About Matilda the Algonquin Cat
In the late 1930’s, a rather disheveled feline wandered into the Algonquin Hotel searching for food and shelter. Ever the quintessential host, owner Frank Case welcomed the furry traveler into the hotel and a tradition was born. Matilda, the current resident, has the run of the house (except in dining areas and the kitchen) and prefers to oversee the comings and goings of the many guests who cross her threshold.
