Dr. Dee Edington to Speak at 6th Corporate Wellness Conference

Dr. Dee .W. Edington is a Professor in the Division of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan and Director of the Health Management Research Center. He has initiated a retirement furlough from the University and has spun off Edington Associates to help Organizations raise Healthy Well-Being to the same level as safety and quality in the workplace and in the workforce.

Dr. Edington's research focuses on the precursors of disease and vitality. His interest is in the relationships between healthy organizations and individual lifestyles, vitality, and quality of life, as they benefit both individuals and organizations. He is specifically interested in how individual health promotion, worksite environments, cultures and wellness activities, communities and families impact health care cost containment, disability, productivity and quality of life. He is the author or co-author of over 800 articles, presentations, and several books.

Edington Associates was formed to bring Healthy Well-Being to the same level at the workplace and in the workforce as is safety and quality. Dee believes so strongly in the concept and potential to make a major difference in people and organizations that he left the University to fully commit the next chapter in his career to this vision.

Dr. Edington will also be presenting two topics. The first is “Helping to Align your Wellness Program to your Business Strategy” which will discuss how organizational health or population health is now recognized as a risk management threat to the organization similar to safety and quality. Creating and maintaining a thriving and sustainable workplace and workforce requires an enterprise solution to fix the enterprise risk management threat. The fundamental issue is a misalignment of the strategies for individual health and organizational health with business strategies of the enterprise, how do you troubleshoot? He will present with Sandy Rosenberg.

The second will be a panel discussion featuring Tom Boehr, Cara McNulty, Amanda Senecal and Victor Villanueva. The session is titled “Engaging the Generations: A Discussion on Health Triggers & Barriers” and will take a look at Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers and Traditionalists and explore their unique characteristics. What turns them on and what turns them off. Understand how to leverage triggers and overcome barriers to connect with each generation. This session will identify health and wellness program design, incentives and communications that resonate with each generation.
