)-- Viewpoints Industry TV will look at the most interesting survey of one neighborhood's WiFi sites. The survey was intended to identify which private hotspots were unprotected or poorly protected from intrusion or unauthorized use. The fact that makes this survey so fascinating is not the results, showing an alarming number of WiFi sites are not optimally protected, but actually the way the survey was conducted. A tech buff named Gene Bransfield placed a device of his own design on the collar of his cat, Coco, and just let the kitty roam his neighborhood as he normally would. Accomplishing in a day what would have taken well-equipped technicians close to a week to do, Coco easily covered the neighborhood and brought back the survey results on his electronic collar. Those with personal WiFi systems should take a good look at their security, because many were shown to be vulnerable. And now, it seems, it's not just the human population who are on the lookout for a weak spot.
