Ridgefield, CT, October 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- What happens when you’re a zippy single looking forward to the future in a cozy new bachelorette home and your brother—along with your parents—moves into your place? Well, if you are stand-up comedian Julia Sweeney, you put together a hilarious monologue (“God Said Ha!”), take it on the road and keep your audience in absolute stitches. And, that is just what Ms. Sweeney will do at The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts on Sunday, November 11 as part of the Bruce Bennett Nissan Comedy Series.

The magic of “God Said Ha!” (the film version of her play earned the Golden Space Needle Award and her recording garnered a Grammy nomination for best comedy album) lies in her loving lampoon of the details surrounding an inherently tragic situation: learning to deal with the foibles of her parents all over again, sneaking a boyfriend into her ridiculously crowded house like an embarrassed teenager, turning her brother's chemotherapy visits into giggly family outings. Sweeney is in total command of the stage, more like a host giving a cockeyed tour of her life than a monologist, and her easy manner and relaxed tone puts the audience at ease, not to mention ready to say, “I can identify with that!”

Julia Sweeney has been on the big screen (“Pulp Fiction,” “Stuart Little”), is a television veteran (“Mad About You,” “Sex and the City”) and has been on stage, most recently with “In the Family Way,” chronicling the adoption of her daughter, Tara Mulan from China. She is funny, and at best live.
