OCA Calls for Thorough Investigation Into the Alleged Shooting Deaths of Teenage Girls

Kingston, Jamaica, March 21, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Office of the Children’s Advocate (OCA) is deeply concerned about the alleged shooting deaths of children by the police.

The OCA has taken note of the alleged circumstances under which 16 year old Vanessa Kirkland of Greenwich Town was killed last night, March 20, as well as the death of 13 year old Nikita Cameron of West Kingston on March 5.

The OCA acknowledges that the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is facing a challenging and difficult task in ridding the country of criminal elements and reducing the crime rate, however this must be done in a manner in which the safety of our children is preserved at all times.

The OCA is calling for a full investigation into the circumstances that lead to the deaths of the two girls, as the Child Care and Protection Act (CCPA) clearly stipulates that each child has the right to life and a safe environment.
