ProtoHack, the "Code-Free" Hackathon, Announces Winners of ProtoHack - Los Angeles

ProtoHack, the "code-free" hackathon announces winners of its Los Angeles event which was held October 11, 2014.

San Francisco, CA, October 16, 2014 --(PR.com)-- ProtoHack recently announced the winners of its third event, a 12-hour hackathon hosted in Los Angeles at Cross Campus. The hackathon was a unique experience, offering attendees the opportunity to turn an idea into a product by using prototyping tools and websites for the chance to win a suite of prizes to help launch their idea. With more than 100 participants, thirty idea pitches and three winners, ProtoHack LA brought together non-coders to build, pitch and make entrepreneurial hopes come true. Attendees ranged from a 14-year-old middle school student to a 70-year-old entrepreneur and spanned many experience levels and industries.

Since creativity is king at all ProtoHack events, the only guidelines participants were asked to follow was to only utilize prototyping tools during the 12-hour hackathon and to use ideas that had not previously been prototyped. At the end of the day, teams of attendees had just 90 seconds to present their ideas in front of a panel of four judges in hopes of becoming a top-five finalist. After the initial pitches, the judges had five minutes to ask the finalists questions and then named the three top ProtoHack teams.

Among the winners was Tanya Zhuk and Miriam Diwan, taking first place for their real estate matching tool, an app called Move.Me.

"Protohack was an exciting experience for us. We were able to network with like-minded peers as well as benefit from idea validation and feedback from an expert panel of judges," said Move.Me. creators Zhuk and Diwan.

Zhuk and Diwan will have the opportunity to strengthen their app with ProtoHack prizes, which include $5,000 worth of development or design services in mobile/web or cloud technologies from El Group International, a $2,500 scholarship to Draper University’s residential program, an annual membership to Wix’s Unlimited Website Builder Package and a one-year license to LaunchPad Central.

Second place went to an app called Travel Adventures for Women, built by Joy Kennelly, Laurie Gloge, Clarissa Jones and Joe Johnson, who wanted to make it easier for women to have fun and travel safely. In third place was Shane Robinson with his app, Cloud Keys, which he describes as “one key to rule them all.” The second and third place ProtoHack winners received $2,500 worth of development or design services in mobile/web or cloud technologies from El Group International, a free class from Draper University, an annual membership to Wix’s Unlimited Website Builder Package, and a one-year license to LaunchPad.

All 100 participants left with tools to take their prototype to the next level, including use of Mind Dots Software Systems’ Mindpulpy platform to help them quickly develop an MVP, and a long list of other prizes.

ProtoHack will be in New York City on 11/15/14 and Austin on 01/10/15. Registration is now open for both events. For information about future ProtoHack events, visit protohack.org.
