Jesse Copelan Announces Campaign for Georgia State House District 120

Eatonton, GA, December 09, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Jesse Copelan, retired attorney and Senior State Court Judge of Putnam County, announces that he will run for election to the Georgia House of Representatives for the 120th District, previously held by Representative Mickey Channell.

Copelan was born and raised in Greene County and graduated from Greensboro High school. After obtaining an undergraduate degree in forestry, Copelan came home to dairy for four years, before returning to The University of Georgia to obtain his law degree. Upon receiving his Juris Doctorate, Copelan opened a law practice in downtown Greensboro. Soon thereafter, he was hired by the late George Lawrence as Assistant District Attorney. This position led to his moving to Putnam County, where he and his wife of twenty-nine years, Kaye McLeroy Copelan, reside today. Although Copelan maintained an active law practice in Eatonton for over 40 years, he retained ownership of his family home place in Greene County, giving him a vested interest in both communities.

Copelan’s interest in this position is nothing new. In the 1980’s, he served in the State House of Representatives for two consecutive terms. After two terms, he made the decision not to run for a third term, due to the demands of his law practice. Copelan also served as the Putnam County attorney for 18 years and was later elected as Putnam County State Court Judge, a position he held for three terms, until his recent retirement.

Although he has enjoyed a short retirement, upon hearing of Mr. Channell’s unexpected resignation, Copelan states, “I am the most qualified person to represent the 120th District. I am the only candidate with first-hand experience as a State Legislator. With a lifetime of experience in the law combined with my love of the people in Putnam and Greene Counties, as well as the 120th District and the state of Georgia, I am uniquely qualified to represent the people of this district in the way which they deserve. I have invested my life in serving the public, and now I am in a position to be able to give 100% to this job in order to see that the 120th District grows to its potential.”
