ITDRC and SBCA Announce Satellite CARES Program

Las Vegas, NV, January 06, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC) and Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association (SBCA) announced a partnership and the launch of the Satellite CARES program today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Satellite Community Aid Relief Efforts (CARES) program provides the consumer satellite industry with a channel to help communities with immediate and long term recovery needs following a disaster.

“This partnership formalizes our ongoing relationship with the consumer satellite industry, and will enable thousands of trained technicians to volunteer their skills and resources for disaster relief,” said Joe Hillis, Operations Director of ITDRC. “Often times terrestrial networks are impacted by disaster, and SBCA members are skilled in the communications technologies that will allow responders and community organizers to reconnect while the public infrastructure is being restored.”

The ITDRC has been working with SBCA members DISH, ViaSat, and DirecTV to coordinate resources for communities in crisis since Superstorm Sandy in November 2012. “Elevating our relationship to an industry organization like the SBCA greatly improves our community impact, and communications with the entire satellite industry,” Hillis added.

“We encourage our member companies to participate in this program as a way to use their skills and knowledge to assist their local community in a time of need. Our technicians can play a vital part in helping disaster-affected areas by repairing damaged satellite broadcasting equipment and educating communities on how to protect and maintain their equipment in the future,” said Joe Widoff, Executive Director of the SBCA.

The Satellite CARES program will be managed through the ITDRC’s National Disaster Relief Coordination Center (NDRCC), which recently opened in Dallas.
