Triangle Kroger Stores Raise More Than $8,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Association Through Annual Shamrock Program
Donations to Benefit Triangle MDA Summer Camps for Children
Raleigh, NC, April 24, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), the nation’s largest traditional grocery retailer with 14 stores throughout the Triangle and North Carolina, has announced that its Triangle-area stores raised $8,413 to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through the company’s annual shamrock program. Between March 1 and March 28, store associates and shoppers worked to raise money for and awareness of the nonprofit’s summer camps for children. Additionally, the shamrock program assists in funding local health care services for children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases.
Shamrocks were sold at two different levels: green for $1 and gold for $5. All donations made benefited the children and adults served by MDA within the Raleigh district.
The MDA Shamrocks program started in 1982 in Grand Rapids, Mich., and was elevated to a national program a year later. During the campaign, Kroger associates ask customers if they would like to buy a shamrock to help MDA. Customers who contribute money sign a paper shamrock, which is displayed on store windows, walls or ceilings.
