The Gateway Family YMCA Announces Rahway Branch Grand Opening

Strengthening Commitment to Community

Rahway, NJ, May 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- The Gateway Family YMCA is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the Rahway Branch, located at 1564 Irving Street, Rahway. The $3.4 million, 16,938 square foot renovation provides expanded opportunities for The Gateway Family YMCA to further the Y’s mission and address the unique needs of the Rahway community.

In late 2013, The Gateway Family YMCA began an intensive renovation project at the Rahway Branch including complete restoration of three floors that stood vacant since a devastating fire in 1981. On June 8, 2015, the Rahway Branch will celebrate with a Grand Opening ceremony by invitation only. The public is invited to visit the Rahway Branch from June 8-14 for a week-long Grand Opening celebration and open house.

“Through the dedication and perseverance of The Gateway Family YMCA Board of Directors, Staff, Members and the Rahway Community this vision of the future of the Rahway Branch was developed and a construction plan implemented,” stated Joseph R. Venezia, President, Board of Directors. “John Ludington, Past Board President, played a critical role in the renovation project, helping to make this vision a reality.”

The upgraded facilities and amenities include:
• Complete restoration of 3 floors
• Addition of 5 Artist Loft workspaces available for rental by local artists
• Complete renovation of 2 full locker rooms
• Addition of 2 family/accessible locker rooms
• Addition of an accessible entrance, elevator and lift for pool access
• Addition of 4 multi-purpose studios for YMCA program, classroom and community rental space
• Additional bathrooms, water fountains and kitchenette
• Addition of Member Lounge, new lobby and new front entrance
• Addition of Cardiovascular Fitness Center & Strength Training Center
• Additional Cardiovascular & Strength Training equipment
• Additional programs and services
• Addition of a staff office suite
• Dedicated Child Watch area
• Expanded building hours
• Dedicated Arts Director and specialized arts programming

Built in 1917, the YMCA has served the Rahway community through traditional Y services including healthy living, youth development and social responsibility. The recently completed renovations bring the YMCA consistent with the City’s vision for the Arts. Included in the renovations is the construction of five Artist Lofts overlooking Irving Street, providing creative workspaces for local Artists, as well as reenergized programs dedicated to visual and digital arts.
