Children in Rahway Learn Water Safety at the Y

The Gateway Family YMCA - Rahway Branch increases availability of scholarships for swim lessons

Rahway, NJ, July 05, 2015 --(PR.com)-- As part of The Gateway Family YMCA's ongoing commitment to reduce drowning rates and teach children water safety, The Gateway Family YMCA - Rahway Branch will provide scholarships for swim instruction and water safety to children from communities surrounding Rahway, NJ.

Fatal drowning is the second-leading cause of death for children ages one to 14 years old according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Educating children how to be safe around water is just as important as teaching them to look both ways before they cross the street,” said Jaimie Hinshelwood, Aquatics Director at the Five Points Branch. “The Y teaches children of all ages and backgrounds that water should be fun, not feared. This practice not only saves lives, it builds confidence.”

The Y, celebrating 171 years of service, has been a leader in providing swim lessons and water safety for the community. The Gateway Family YMCA - Rahway Branch continues to help youth and adults experience the joy and benefits of swimming, so they can be healthy, confident and secure in the water. There are a variety of programs to choose, including Youth and Teen Aquatic classes, the Rapids Swim Team, Adult Water Exercise Classes, Adult Swim Classes, and Personalized Instruction.

The Gateway Family YMCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, health and community service organization of caring staff and volunteers dedicated to strengthening the foundations of community and stands For Youth Development, For Healthy Living and For Social Responsibility.
