‘Heaven’s Angels’ Deliver Healthcare and Hope to Needy in Africa - Ride! Features Interview About Virgin Unite’s Two-Wheeled Initiative

PR.com)-- More than 10,000 lives are lost every day in Sub-Saharan Africa due to largely preventable diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
That human tragedy has not gone unnoticed by Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Unite, the charitable foundation of his Virgin Group.
Virgin Unite (www.virginunite.com) was set up in 2004 with the purpose of finding new ways to deal with serious social and environmental issues. One of its initiatives is a program called Heaven’s Angels.
Among other sustainable objectives, Heaven’s Angels trains qualified healthcare workers to deliver essential medicines and health education by motorcycle to remote, rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
To date, the campaign has officially raised $1.13 million dollars worldwide and enabled Virgin Unite to buy 114 motorcycles for the program.
“There are many ways to deal with (this situation), but a motorcycle, even though they’re a little more expensive, allows a healthcare worker to reach thousands more people,” says Priya Bery, Strategy and Business Development Director for Virgin Unite.
