Legendary rockers Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend formed TCA in 2012, with the goal of providing every American teen cancer patient the highest standard in treatment. As the leading authorities in the field, TCA is delivering a proven medical blueprint to hospitals across the United States, providing young cancer patients revolutionary changes in policy, treatment and health management, as well as state-of-the-art facilities. Current TCA units are in development at hospitals in Nashville, Tennessee; New York; New Haven, Connecticut; Cleveland; Boston; Philadelphia; Tampa, Florida, and Forth Worth, Texas.

The units supported by the North Carolina Cares event will provide a hospital venue where teen cancer patients can be medically treated with their peers. These units also include a TCA lounge where teens can escape from the harsh realities of cancer and interact with outside friends and family. Each TCA lounge features computers, pool tables, plasma TV’s, movies and video games for interactive play.

Quotes:
“The leadership that Gov. McCrory and the North Carolina business community are demonstrating in support of TCA’s mission to provide age-specific support to their teens will set a benchmark for other states to follow,” said Daltrey. “I am so thankful for the support and happy to be able to join the business leaders, healthcare professionals, and most importantly, North Carolina’s patients and survivors in April to kick off this initiative.”

“Teen Cancer America is the only organization dedicated to improving the lives and survival rate of teens and young adults battling cancer,” said Sally Webb Berry, Teen Cancer America Board Member and CEO of Cary based event producers, The Special Event Company. “North Carolina Cares will be essential in supporting TCA units that help teens facing a battle with cancer with bravery and the expert medical care they need. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy a night of fun with rock legend Roger Daltrey, and support a cause that touches every one of our lives in some way.”

About Teen Cancer America:
Following in the footsteps of the highly developed and successful Teenage Cancer Trust – Teen and Young Adult Cancer Program out of the U.K., Teen Cancer America is designed to help hospitals and healthcare professionals bridge the gap between pediatric and adult oncology care. Teen Cancer America aims to educate and support hospitals and outpatient facilities in the development of specialized units for this age group. The units are a place just for teens and young adults where the cancer experience is understood and the importance of living life through the cancer journey is nourished.

Teen Cancer America’s work supports the coming together of physicians and allied healthcare professionals in both pediatric and adult oncology so that the teen and young adult cancer patient care becomes closer to where it needs to be. Age targeted care for this population is necessary for medical and appropriate psychosocial development of this unique age group. Research shows that some cancers that target this particular age group have not improved in over thirty years while improvements have been made in both pediatric and adult cancers alike. Teens and young adults with cancer are long overdue for an upgrade and Teen Cancer America can hopefully light the fire in America’s health systems.
