Historia, the Future of Mapping History

Historia Media International is set to revolutionize our view of history. Its unique digital archive of over 14,000 original maps depicting worldwide historic events will be made available for the first time online at Maporia.com. Each map tells a graphic story that would take thousands of words to explain.

Dublin, Ireland, February 04, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Historia’s maps reflect the dynamic sweep of history, from prehistoric migrations to 21st-century conflicts. They cover a vast array of topics and themes, some of them played out on the world stage, others at a more localized scale: from transcontinental trade routes, conquests and empires to the evolution of historic cities and the development of individual nation states.

Supported by concise explanatory texts and suggested links to other maps, this well-designed, easy-to-navigate online resource will open new horizons for education, global business research, news and media organizations. It will also provide an in-depth archive for lecturers, academics, teachers, students, educational establishments and other interested individuals and organizations.

Malcolm Swanston, one of the founders of Historia, is a cartographic innovator, with a unique ability to translate events, accurately, into map format. He has spent over forty years creating historical themed maps and publications, all of which are now in digital format.

He created the maps for the ground-breaking Times Atlas of World History, which has been published in 18 languages and sold millions of copies. He went on to create many more titles for Times Books and thematic atlases for the international co-editions market. Malcolm’s recent atlases have been published by Oxford University Press, Hachette, Henry Holt Inc., and many more. The latest – Restless Empire – was published by Harvard University Press in 2015. Malcolm attained a Fellowship of the Royal Geographical Society in 2014, in recognition of this body of work.

Over the next few months Malcolm and his team will be reviewing the digital archive, supported by a handpicked selection of world-renowned academics, and organizing and integrating the maps in preparation for the launch of Maporia.com.

With the online education industry expected to top $4 trillion per year within five years’ time, Historia are ready to transform the teaching of history and enjoy the associated rewards this initiative will inevitably bring.
