Shorecrest Prep Gets Nod from Relay For Life

The Top 10 Relay School Gearing Up for 2016 Relay

St. Petersburg, FL, March 04, 2016 --(PR.com)-- For more than a decade, Shorecrest Preparatory School has been a Relay For Life school, having raised nearly $1 million for the American Cancer Society over its ten year tenure. In August 2015, Shorecrest senior and 2016 Relay For Life Co-chair Lauren Klein along with Melissa Weest, Relay For Life Community Manager, attended the National Relay For Life Leadership Summit in Dallas, TX. An invitation to the summit is one of Relay’s highest honors - only the top 10 Relay For Life schools are invited to attend.

The honors continued as Shorecrest was named winner of the Rising Star Award for its 65% increase in year over year funds raised. In 2014, Shorecrest raised $77,000 for Relay For Life. In 2015, the School raised more than $117,000. Shorecrest was the only school to win the award. Shorecrest was also one of the select few organizations that won a second award for outstanding fundraising success.

The Co-chairs of the 2016 Relay For Life at Shorecrest are graduating seniors Lauren Klein, Victoria Vulgamore and Hannah Weiss. According to Lauren, “I sought out and decided to chair the Shorecrest chapter because I have had family members affected by cancer, and I want to do whatever I can to contribute to cancer research and prevention. I am excited for this upcoming year, as we have great team of leaders ready to build upon the success of last year's Relay.”

The annual Shorecrest Relay For Life event attracts more than 300 people from nearly 50 teams for the American Cancer Society Fundraiser. Led by Shorecrest students on the Shorecrest campus, the Relay For Life event is open to the Tampa Bay community at large. Shorecrest hosts one of the biggest Relay For Life events in the Tampa Bay Area.

Tampa Bay Area families, churches, businesses, community groups, and individuals are encouraged to join the fight against cancer by forming a Relay For Life team to participate in the event on April 8. To learn more or to register a team visit www.relayforlife.org/shorecrestfl.
