Dr. Jay Asdell Named Indiana Dental Association President

30-year veteran oral surgeon to lead dental association.

Indianapolis, IN, May 26, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Indiana Dental Association (IDA) has named Dr. Jay Asdell as its new president for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Dr. Asdell has been a member of IDA since 1986.

Dr. Asdell is an oral surgeon who practices in South Bend, IN. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1983 and completed his internship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at New York’s St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Division of Dentistry in 1986.

“I feel strongly that active participation is the key to success with any organization,” says Dr. Asdell. He has served the IDA in many capacities, including, President Elect, Vice President, member of the IDA Board of Trustees, member of the IDA House of Delegates, member of the IDA Finance Committee, member of the IDA Sunset Policy Review Committee, as well as Past President of the North Central Dental Society. He also serves as the Oral Surgery lead for the Indiana Mission of Mercy event to bring charitable dental care to 2,000 underserved Hoosiers.

Dr. Asdell has been an IU season ticket holder for over 40 years. He has driven thousands of miles from South Bend to Bloomington and back to watch the Hoosiers play. He even learned how to fly in order to cut the trip from four hours to one. In 2009, the IU Alumni Office called Dr. Asdell to see if he could fly to Bloomington and take Coach Tom Crean to an event in South Bend. Dr. Asdell enjoyed the opportunity to fly Coaches Crean (IU basketball) Lynch (IU football) and Leggit-Jack (IU women’s basketball) as well as the legendary voice of IU radio Don Fisher. Since then, Dr. Asdell has had the honor of flying Coach Crean to several venues and events.

In addition to cheering on IU sports and flying his plane, Dr. Asdell enjoys boating and riding his Harley Davidson. His hobbies include tennis, music and playing the drums.

Dr. Asdell and his wife Rulan have a son Patrick and a daughter Elizabeth. They enjoy spending time as a family on Lake Wawasee.
