Steve Alpert's American Contemporary Military Art Strengthens Bond Between U.S. Flag, Soldiers and Civilians

Artist Steve Alpert's artwork conveys compelling messages about the duty, honor and dedication of the women and men who serve and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. His paintings present military personnel in action -- from pausing after a skirmish to an honor guard carrying a flag-draped coffin, and an Army Chaplain officiating at a veteran’s funeral. His art connects service men and women, which includes active duty and retired military, to one another and the broader audience of Americans.

Steve Alpert's American Contemporary Military Art Strengthens Bond Between U.S. Flag, Soldiers and Civilians
Washington, DC, June 09, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Artist Steve Alpert captures the enduring bond between the United States flag, military service and America’s soldiers in his painting titled, “Legacy.” The connection is reinforced annually on June 14th, when the nation honors the “Stars and Stripes” on Flag Day and the U.S. Army celebrates its 241st birthday. Americans can experience the spirit of the holiday by viewing the painting at the artist’s website: www.stevealpertart.com.

Mr. Alpert’s artwork depicts eight American soldiers in the uniforms that span many eras of U.S. military history. The soldiers are moving across a field and the backdrop shows a sky filled with an American Flag. Each soldier wears the uniform from one of eight eras of U.S. Army history: Revolutionary War, War of 1812, War Between the States, Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Viet Nam War. The common theme is honoring soldiers in “service” to their nation.

“Legacy," Mr. Alpert explained, “Tells the story of our country. All the freedoms and liberty guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are protected by our sentinels, from across America’s history, who have always been there for all of us. These soldiers have bravely been there in the past, are here now and will always be there to defend our way of life.”

As the nation’s Flag Week begins on June 13, Mr. Alpert’s painting honoring women in the military goes on display. The Women in Military Service for America Memorial is exhibiting Mr. Alpert’s painting entitled, “Portrait of a Woman.” The 120” x 90” oil on canvas painting depicts a woman officer, who is wearing fatigues and saluting the American flag from three different views. The Women in Service to America Museum, located at the Ceremonial Entrance to Arlington National Cemetery, is presenting the triptych painting from now until December 14, 2016.

“Portrait of a Woman” and “Legacy” are part of the artist’s body of work known as American Military Contemporary Art. The artwork conveys a compelling message about the duty, honor and dedication of the women and men who serve and have served in the U.S. Armed Forces since the nation’s birth. The art connects the lives of service men and women, both active duty and retired military, to one another and the broader audience of Americans.

For example, “Legacy,” a large, 40” x 78” oil on linen painting, encompasses the grand sweep of the American military story. Three years after completion, the art became the catalyst for a stage play. A hand-picked team of talented and dedicated theater professionals created The Steadfast, a play that was presented Off-Broadway in New York City. The production was praised by The New York Times and a group of theater critics.

The original “Legacy” painting now hangs in the boardroom of Chairman and CEO Joseph Grano, Jr’s firm, Centurion Holdings in New York City. Mr. Grano joined the U.S. Army in 1967, trained as a Green Beret, and deployed to Vietnam. He was seriously injured during a night patrol when a booby trap exploded near him and his men.

After recovering, Mr. Grano entered the financial services industry and became a successful leader in the financial services sector. Before founding Centurion Holdings, he served as Chairman and CEO of UBS PaineWebber.
