Therapy Animal Team from TFI Envision Renews Certification

Norwalk, CT, September 23, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Honey, the Havanese office dog, and Elizabeth P. Ball, President/Creative Director of TFI Envision, Inc. have renewed their team certification with the Pet Partners® Therapy Animal Program. They volunteer with the Healing Hounds Program at a local hospital.

The recertification process includes a written test as well as an in-person evaluation by a licensed Pet Partners evaluator. The evaluation process consists of the Pet Partners Skills Test (PPST) and the Pet Partners Aptitude Test (PPAT).

To test basic good behavior skills, animals and their handlers complete the PPST. Skills are evaluated for how well the team can manage in an unfamiliar setting, such as a nursing home, hospital, school, library, etc., as well as navigating around health care equipment, such as wheelchairs and walkers.

Patients find that animal visits are a welcome distraction from the stress and anxiety of a hospital stay. Often patients have had pets in their past, so spending time with a therapy animal can bring back good memories.

Pet Partners Therapy Animal Program, established in 1990, is the only national registry that requires volunteer training and screening of animal handler teams.
