National Museum of African American History and Culture Visits MindBloom Preschool

The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) teaches a local Washington, DC immersion language preschool a few lessons on diversity and inclusion and the importance of making a difference in the world.

Washington, DC, September 27, 2016 --(PR.com)-- "Everyone makes a difference," is exactly what the children at MindBloom Preschool learned this summer, when the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) visited the preschool last month to launch it’s extramural community outreach programs to teach children about different tools people use to make the world a better place.

Amy Moorer, a NMAAHC Museum Teacher, began her lesson on diversity and inclusion by reading the book One, by Kathryn Otoshi, to a group of children and then seguing into showing the youngsters scenes from the 1963 March on Washington and then introducing them to the works of painter and activist Hale Woodruff, whose famous large-scale mural depicting the Amistad mutiny are on display at NMAAHC.

The lesson then culminated with each child creating a self-portrait of how they want to make a difference in the world.

Susan Acker, founder and Director of MindBloom Preschool, expressed joy and elation at NMAAHC’s presence at her school, “I can’t believe the new museum found us to give us this wonderful gift! I feel so blessed and honored that our kids can take part in these important activities and the museum has not even opened yet!”

NMAAHC opened to the public Saturday, September 24, 2016.

MindBloom Preschool, located in Washington, DC, is a Mandarin Chinese and Spanish immersion language preschool for children ages 2-5, which offers a classical curriculum that teaches daily STEM-based activities and Suzuki piano to its young students.
