Singing River Chorale to Present Free Christmas Concerts Dec. 3 & 4

Concerts in Gulfport and Pascagoula to feature works by Bach, Rutter and will include brass, tympani and organ.

Pascagoula, MS, October 25, 2016 --(PR.com)-- The Singing River Chorale, a regional volunteer chorus, will present two free concerts titled “Pax: The Peace of Christmas” on December 3 and 4. The concerts, which will be the first time the Chorale has produced a Christmas-themed program in its 14 year history, will feature a diversity of sacred works that will include the harmonies of J.S. Bach, the exciting rhythms of renown English composer John Rutter and modern American works by Z. Randall Stroope and Dan Forrest.

“We look forward to presenting to the coast community a tremendously-rich program of Christmas music,” said Doug Wall, the Chorale’s artistic director. “‘Pax: The Peace of Christmas’ has been designed to allow concert-goers the opportunity to hear, through classic choral Christmas repertoire, the expression of the historic longing of peace for the people of God.”

One of the program’s highlights will be Rutter’s “Gloria,” which will be accompanied by brass, tympani, percussion and organ. This classic work, a three-movement setting of the historic Latin mass text, opens with the words of the angels in the Gospel according to Luke, “Glory to God in the highest. Peace on earth. Goodwill to all.”

In addition to the Chorale’s singers, “Pax: The Peace of Christmas” will feature Tapestry, a select choral ensemble of 8th grade girls from Pascagoula’s Colmer Middle School, under the direction of Alta Wood.

The December 3 concert, which will be held at 7 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 5005 Lawson Avenue in Gulfport, will be the first time the Chorale has traveled to Gulfport for a concert since 2003. The December 4 concert will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Pascagoula, 1819 Pascagoula Street in Pascagoula.

The Singing River Chorale, directed by Doug Wall and accompanied by Elise Everett, is headquartered in Pascagoula. It was founded in 2002 by Gary Anglin to offer a tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. Since then, its mission has broadened to encourage, promote and develop public, private and community interest in the musical arts through concert performances of outstanding choral literature. Annually, the Chorale produces two free, public concerts for the greater Gulf Coast community.
