Northumberland County Readies to Host Ontario’s Best Curlers

Ticket sales and call out for volunteers launched for 2017 Ontario Curling Championships.

Cobourg, Canada, November 12, 2016 --(PR.com)-- As local curling clubs across Ontario welcome their curlers back for another season, the West Northumberland Curling Club is preparing to host the 2017 Ontario Men’s & Women’s Curling Championship at the Cobourg Community Centre from January 29 to February 5, 2017.

Representatives from the Ontario Curling Association (OCA), West Northumberland Curling Club and the Town of Cobourg gathered today at the Cobourg Community Centre to provide an update on activities leading up to the event, using the opportunity to announce the launch of ticket sales and a call out for volunteers.

“The West Northumberland Curling Club is excited to be hosting the 2017 Ontario Men’s & Women’s Curling Championship,” says Linda Laliberte, 2017 Ontario Men’s & Women’s Curling Championship host committee chair. “We look forward to welcoming athletes and curling fans from across Ontario who can enjoy all that Northumberland County has to offer including fantastic local restaurants, unique local shops and our beautiful lakeside communities.”

The Ontario Men’s & Women’s Curling Championship will see the top ten men’s and top eight women’s teams competing for the provincial championships. The winning teams will move on to represent Ontario at the National championships, the Men’s Tim Hortons Brier and Women’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

“Our volunteer committees have been hard at work preparing for January, however, there is still lots of work to be done,” says Linda Laliberte, 2017 Ontario Men’s & Women’s Curling Championship host committee chair. “We are pleased to announce that we already have over 200 excited volunteers signed up to participate in the event and welcome anyone interested in getting involved, as a volunteer or sponsor, to visit our website to learn more.”

The 2016 – 2017 curling season has started and qualifying events begin in December. In previous years the Ontario Dairy Farmers Men’s Tankard and Women’s Scotties have seen competitive playoffs between National and World champions such as Team Howard vs. Team Epping and Team Homan vs. Team Middaugh. The OCA has announced a partnership with Title Sports Live (TSL) to live stream seven curling events, including the Men’s & Women’s Championship, across Ontario in the 2016-2017 season. Curling fans can stay up-to-date on the exciting lead up to Cobourg 2017 and watch a game in each round robin draw and all championship games on their smart TV, smart phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop.

Tickets are on sale now. Curling fans and sports enthusiasts are encouraged to purchase their tickets now and take advantage of cost savings when they purchase a full event package.
