First Canadian Ever to Finish Dakar Rally to Guest on Ride! Lawrence Hacking Talks About His New Book "To Dakar And Back: 21 Days Across North Africa By Motorcycle"

PR.com)-- Off-road racing hero Lawrence Hacking, the first Canadian ever to finish the Dakar Rally, makes a guest appearance on Ride! January 30th to talk about his new book, To Dakar And Back: 21 Days Across North Africa By Motorcycle (ECW Press).
The Dakar Rally is an off-road endurance race that is “without question, the most arduous and notorious rally on the planet,” says Hacking.
He completed the 2001 Paris-Dakar despite several serious incidents, each of which could have spelled the end of the road for the then 46-year-old privateer.
Riding a Honda XR650, Hacking finished 58th overall and placed an amazing 13th overall in the first-timer class.
Other highlights of his off-road career include representing Canada at a half-dozen Six Days Enduros. He completed every one and medalled each time.
In 2005 and 2007 he entered the Beijing to Ulan Bataar International Rally across the Chinese Gobi desert and won the 250-cc class.
Hacking was also one of the key organizers of the 2007 FIM World Enduro Championship, held in Canada for the first time.
