Free Wheelchair Mission Receives Major Gift Toward Goal of Distributing One Million Wheelchairs

Anonymous donor gives FWM $250,000, challenges fellow Houston residents to give.

Irvine, CA, December 14, 2016 --(PR.com)-- With gratitude, Free Wheelchair Mission’s Development Director Angela Gomez today announced a major gift of $250,000 from a long-time anonymous supporter in Houston, Texas. The donation will provide the gift of mobility to 3,125 individuals living with a disability in a developing nation.

Over 100 million people worldwide are in dire need of a wheelchair, yet most do not have the resources to obtain one. The need for wheelchairs is growing due to aging populations, natural disasters, traffic accidents, and political unrest.

Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed more than 960,000 wheelchairs since 2001, and is currently on a mission to surpass one million wheelchairs in the first half of 2017. This anonymous gift will bring the organization within reach of that goal.

“We are so grateful for this very generous gift,” said Free Wheelchair Mission Founder and President Don Schoendorfer. “This gift will lift more than 3,000 individuals off the ground and give them a chance at life.”

Support from the Southwest Region has grown significantly in the past year for Free Wheelchair Mission. A regional office is in Houston, Texas.

The anonymous donor hopes his gift will inspire other local donations and has challenged others in the Houston area to give generously to Free Wheelchair Mission, saying, “I strongly believe in the work Free Wheelchair Mission is doing. They are serving the poorest of the poor and giving opportunity to those whose lives have been overlooked. It is a privilege to be able to support this organization.”
