Plus Size Activewear Brand JunoActive™ Calls Out Lack of #PlusSizeEmojis in New Campaign

JunoActive, maker of plus size activewear, swimwear and intimates, wonders where 67% of American women who wear a size 14 and up are represented in emoji keyboards. By launching the #PlusSizeEmojis campaign, they hope to inspire curvy women to be active and feel proud about sharing that part of their lives online and to encourage emoji developers and designers to finally represent the amazing majority of American women who wear a size 14 and up.

Mendota Heights, MN, December 19, 2016 --(PR.com)-- Six billion emojis–and counting–are sent soaring across the globe every single day. In 2015, Apple launched the iOS 8.3 version with diverse emojis based on the Fitzpatrick scale for classifying human skin tone. Even the most recent iOS 10 update includes new female athletes and professionals, a new rainbow flag and more diverse family options. Cheers for the changes – these are steps in the right direction. However, JunoActive was left wondering where the 67% of American women who wear a size 14 and up are represented on emoji keyboards.

Having supplied plus size women with athletic wear for over twenty years, JunoActive is well aware that plus size bodies can run, bike, play basketball and more. Their customers show that being fit doesn’t always look the same way – bodies of all shapes and sizes are strong, healthy and living active lives. This stance can be found on social media too. Instagram's #plussizefitness and #biggirlsworkouttoo show thousands of curvy and plus-size women competing in triathlons, lifting weights, and sharing their everyday active lifestyles with the world.

To further the support of women attaining and inspiring plus size fitness, JunoActive decided it was time to start a #PlusSizeEmojis campaign. They teamed up with Minneapolis-based comedian Allison Fingerett, who struck some active emoji poses with her own brand of unafraid humor, proving that bodies of all shapes and sizes can be active and deserve to be equally portrayed on keyboards and beyond.

Fingerett notes, “I'm excited to be a part of this campaign because representing plus-size women as healthy and active is an important step toward a more widespread body positive movement–which is beneficial to everyone, no matter their size.”

By launching the #PlusSizeEmojis campaign, JunoActive not only hopes to inspire curvy women to be active and feel proud sharing that part of their lives online, but to encourage emoji developers and designers to finally represent the amazing majority of American women who wear a size 14 and up.
