The local sailors, parents and patrons of the Youth Sailing program host this annual gala fundraiser on Saturday evening, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. to raise proceeds for children to learn, race and grow though the sport of sailing. Both a live and silent auction will raise money for this long-established Youth Sailing Program, which boats Olympic-medal-winning instructors and nearly 40 years of service to the community’s children. The special event includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and live entertainment for ticket purchase at www.diyc.org/youth-sailing/donate-to-youth-sailing as well as the Web site to donate. All proceeds 100-percent support scholarships, safety equipment, and the overall success of the Foundation’s sailing program.

About DIYC Youth Sailing Foundation Program:
Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization, with the purpose to support and promote the sport of sailing for the youth of Tampa Bay in an environment which encourages safety, good sportsmanship, self-reliance, and respect for authority, the community and the marine environment. The foundation is funded through donations and proceeds from our Learn-to-Sail and Continuation Sailing Programs, as well as the Annual Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation Auction and various supporting activities. The program is a longstanding tradition, established for Tampa youth in 1968.

The foundation's goal is to promote the sport of sailing while building children’s independence, self-reliance, and good character. Sailing as an outdoor, on-the-water learning experience with other young people fosters a child’s "captain of ownership" in one of the most enjoyable ways to learn.
