Free Wheelchair Mission Named Official Charity Partner of the OC Marathon

Annual “Run for Mobility” Aims to Lift 2,500 Lives Off the Ground on May 6, 2017

Irvine, CA, January 31, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Free Wheelchair Mission (FWM), a world leader in mobility solutions for people with disabilities in developing countries, has been named an official charity partner of the 2017 OC Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5k.

Participants are invited to “run for those who can't” in Free Wheelchair Mission’s annual Run for Mobility as part of the OC Marathon’s inaugural 5K on May 6, 2017. By raising funds to support Free Wheelchair Mission, participants can have their race entry fee waived.

“We are thrilled to be an official charity partner of the OC Marathon. The Run for Mobility is in its 14th year and we are excited to host it during this year’s OC Marathon’s 5k. The 5k distance is the perfect distance to have the whole family participate and we are looking forward to seeing all the families at the event,” said Angela Gomez, Free Wheelchair Mission’s Director of Development.

The 2017 OC Marathon hopes to raise more than $1 million for charity. Free Wheelchair Mission hopes to raise $200,000 of that goal – enough to provide the transforming gift of mobility to 2,500 people with disabilities in developing nations.

Free Wheelchair Mission is on a mission to deliver its 1 millionth wheelchair by Summer 2017. To date, they have delivered close to 970,000 wheelchairs at no cost to people with disabilities in developing nations since 2001.

Over 100 million people worldwide are in dire need of a wheelchair, yet most do not have the resources to obtain one. The need for wheelchairs is growing due to aging populations, natural disasters, traffic accidents, and political unrest.
