Synagro Secures 5 Year Contract Extension to Provide Waterbury, CT and Surrounding Communities with State of the Art Biosolids Management Services

Baltimore, MD, February 08, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Synagro Technologies, Inc., the largest recycler of biosolids and organic by-products in North America, is pleased to announce it has secured a new five year contract, with the option for 3 extension years, with the City of Waterbury, CT for management of biosolids using thermal reduction (fluidized bed incineration) technology. Synagro has been providing these services to Waterbury and surrounding communities for over 20 years. As part of this agreement, Synagro will be investing in excess of $8 million for targeted upgrades to the incinerator, including the installation of a state-of-the-art emissions control system. These investments bring the facility into compliance with the world’s most rigorous air discharge standards for biosolids thermal processing, while helping the City protect the Naugatuck & Housatonic River systems by removing Phosphorus from the wastewater stream.

The contract renewal leverages Synagro’s financial wherewithal and technological expertise in the operation of thermal reduction facilities and transportation logistics while the City secures a reliable five year solution from a trusted partner in a dynamic, challenging market. The new contract also allows the City to focus its expertise and financial resources on meeting increasingly strict wastewater discharge standards, while stabilizing biosolids disposal costs in a highly volatile market.

“This project builds on a long term relationship between the City and Synagro,” said Steve Cole, Synagro CEO. “It creates a critical regional biosolids solution whereby Waterbury and Synagro have partnered to provide important public infrastructure that is an affordable, reliable and a hi-tech biosolids solution for the City of Waterbury and surrounding communities.”
