Texas Self Storage Association Surpasses $1 Million Lifetime Giving Amount for Shriners Children’s Hospital - Galveston
Austin, TX, February 16, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Members of the Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) reached a significant milestone in their lifetime giving total of $1 million by raising more than $188,000 this year for the Shriners Children’s Hospital - Galveston. TSSA has raised funds for the hospital for the past 15 years. This is the largest contribution the organization has made in support of the hospital’s work to help burn victims and their families. TSSA representatives presented the hospital with a check to celebrate the milestone during a tour of the hospital in Galveston.

“When you see the way the hospital approaches care, treating the whole child, both body and mind, with the goal of returning their life to normalcy, you can’t help but be profoundly affected,” said fundraising co-chair Doug Hunt. “TSSA members are incredibly generous and this is such a worthy cause. It’s an honor to raise funds for this hospital and I’m proud that we were able to surpass the $1 million goal this year.”

TSSA raises money through a charity poker tournament and silent and live auctions at the Annual Conference and Trade Show. A significant portion of the funds raised come from committed individual members. Proceeds go to help the hospital treat the whole child by providing highly specialized acute, reconstructive and rehabilitative care in a safe, family-centered environment.

Since the hospital entered the burn care field in 1966, the survival rate of children with burns over more than 50 percent of their body surface has doubled. Today, patients with burns over 90 percent of their body can survive and go on to lead full, productive lives thanks to the cutting-edge clinical care, research and education at the hospital regardless of a families’ ability to pay.

“In reaching $1 million raised, TSSA has risen to an exclusive level that few supporters join. Their transformational gifts represent a commitment to support Shriners Hospitals for Children – Galveston in our efforts to provide the best clinical care, to advance research and to train the healthcare professionals of tomorrow. We are deeply honored to have partnered with TSSA for 15 years, and look forward to many years of continued friendship.” -Dr. David Herndon, Chief of Staff

“The TSSA is a valued partner in the mission of our beloved hospital as we continue to provide medical care to children who have sustained debilitating burns. Over the past several years when the TSSA Board comes to the Hospital and makes their presentation it is a time for reflection. We are so blessed to be the recipient of their annual fundraising campaign which has surpassed the remarkable $1 million pinnacle. The TSSA members are very generous and through their generosity our budget remains viable while enabling us to remain the world's most recognized pediatric burns treatment hospital. Their gifts come from the heart and we cherish the relationship not only with the TSSA, but, also each of the members. They truly have love for this great hospital and they provide ‘Love to the Rescue.’ I cannot thank them enough for what they do and mean to us.” -Greg McEwen, incoming chairman of the board.

The TSSA Fundraising Committee is already making plans for the next campaign, which will take place mainly at the Association’s annual conference on October 18-20, 2017 in San Antonio.
