Smi Release Exclusive Interview Ahead of Paediatric Clinical Trials 2017: Andy Kenwright, Senior Statistical Scientist, Roche Limited

SMi’s Paediatric Clinical Trials 2017 returns to London in just two weeks’ time and is delighted to have Andy Kenwright as one of the expert speakers.

London, United Kingdom, March 08, 2017 --(PR.com)-- SMi’s Paediatric Clinical Trials 2017 returns to London in just two weeks’ time and is delighted to have Andy Kenwright as one of the expert speakers.

In the run up to this year’s event, SMi Group caught up with Andy to discuss the current landscape of the industry as well as his upcoming presentation entitled "Who has deviant children? (We all do - in our trials - but how hard can analysing the data from these 'tomorrow adults' be?)”. His presentation will touch upon the following key points:

• Children taking part in clinical trials often fall outside of expected study behaviours and standards
• Simply applying standards you apply to adults may well not work for children – from lab ranges to dosing regimens to summary graphs and physiological or PK/PD assumptions
• A fundamental paradigm is that children are constantly growing and changing. How do we track this when we want stability during our trial periods?
• In developing a paediatric toolkit at Roche, what are the broad stroke highlights of some of the most “current” topics?

Interview Snapshot

AK: “I think recruitment rates are real, pharma and CRO staff are not rubbish at their jobs, if they miss targets then it is for valid reasons – there often aren’t enough kids in certain therapeutic areas to meet the demands that regulators place on the trials (and often we have trials competing for the same patients). Industry keeps talking to regulators who I think now are realising that forcing companies to start unachievable studies does nobody any good.”

The full interview is available to access in the event download centre along with several other interviews from this year’s interview series. www.paediatric-trials.co.uk/prcom

The line-up joining Andy Kenwright at Paediatric Clinical Trials include handpicked international speakers from Genentech, Otsuka, EMA, Johnson & Johnson, Insys Therapeutics, GSK, Paediatric Research Consultancy and many more as they discuss the topics of regulation, drug development, incentives and recruitment and retention.
