Irving, TX, February 09, 2008 --(
PR.com)-- Tri-Crescent Energy Corp., an oil and natural gas exploration company located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has been implementing an innovative technological method for the location of energy reserves deep beneath the earth’s surface. Three-dimensional seismic profiling, along with sonic logs and interpretation software, allow geologists and engineers to further increase the chances of locating productive hydrocarbon zones.
In the past, finding oil and natural gas meant studying the surface geology and developing maps that were blurry, similar to taking photos from an unfocused camera. As a result, a high number of unproductive sites were drilled.
However, with today’s new technology, including 3D seismic profiling, Tri-Crescent Energy is now able to more accurately locate drilling opportunities.
“Simply put, 3D seismic profiling is taking an MRI of the earth,” said William J. Hill, president and owner of Tri-Crescent Energy.
“We like to call ourselves an exploitation company as opposed to an exploration company, because this technology allows us to take advantage of existing and previously bi-passed reservoirs,” he added.
Using advanced computer software and modeling programs, teams of engineers, geologists and geophysicists at Tri-Crescent are attempting to tap into oil and natural gas reserves domestically, primarily in the Gulf Coast region.
Hill contends that the technology, while helpful, is just one component to making a project successful.
“The profiling software puts us in a good position,” he said. “But ultimately, turning the drill bit to the right is what discovers the hydrocarbons.”
Tri-Crescent Energy plans to utilize the new technology on several planned drilling projects in early 2008.
