NSC to Hold Summer Sports Camps and Sports Leadership Academy

Oswestry, United Kingdom, August 05, 2017 --(PR.com)-- This Summer, North Shropshire College (NSC) will be holding Disability Multi-Sport Camps at the Walford Campus. The main aim of the camps are for young people, aged 14 or over with an intellectual and / or learning difficulty to get involved with sporting activities, have fun and socialise with their peers.

The camps are being organised in partnership with North Shropshire Special Olympics and other specialists, who will be delivering the activities. All of the sessions will be delivered by professionally trained staff members in a fun and safe environment. Amongst the many activities on offer are Football, Tennis, Fencing, Indoor Rowing and many more to look forward to. The camps will be delivered over four days in August: Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th August, with all four camps running from 9:30am until 4pm.

Benji Evans, event organiser, commented “After the success of last year’s sessions, we have built upon the key partnerships we established with the National Governing Bodies of sport, as well as local sport teams that specialise in supporting people with a disability which provides good exit routes for people to join after the Summer camps. Our Summer camps were first of their kind in the area and it is an excellent platform for people with a learning disability to try new sports in an inclusive environment.”

The College will also be delivering Sport Leadership courses through its Sport Leadership Academy. The courses are taught at several levels, from Level 1 to Level 3, and are designed to develop self-esteem and confidence, as well as helping learners to develop and refine existing skills that they have. The Level 1 course caters for people as young as 12 years old, while the Level 2 targets people aged 16 and over.

The Leadership Academy will focus on many important employability and life skills, such as communication, decision making, organisation and time management as well as team work, and is of particular benefit for those wishing to work in the sport, leisure, tourism, fitness and entertainment industries plus other areas of work.
