Tom Dillow Named Shorecrest Assistant Headmaster

Saint Petersburg, FL, September 07, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Thomas J. Dillow has been named Assistant Headmaster of Shorecrest Preparatory School. Dillow has served Shorecrest as the Head of Upper School since 2012. He will continue to lead the 9th-12th grade Upper School in addition to his new role.

In the Assistant Headmaster role, Dillow will support Headmaster Mike Murphy in implementing the school’s 2020 Strategic Plan. Shorecrest has recently completed an extensive strategic planning process with the support of Pat Bassett from Heads Up Consulting. The plan will be rolled out to the community in November 2017.

Dillow has more than two decades of independent school experience, having served in both day and boarding schools as teacher, coach, mentor, and administrator. Prior to joining the faculty at Shorecrest in 2012, Dillow served as a teacher and housemaster at The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ. There he also designed and served as the first Director of the Lawrenceville Summer School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Government from Georgetown University and master’s degree in International and European Politics from the University of Edinburgh. Tom and his wife Deirdre, the Shorecrest School Nurse, have four boys who are enrolled at Shorecrest.

Over his five-year tenure at Shorecrest Dillow has collaborated with the 9th-12th grade faculty to create new schedule and pedagogy that are informed by brain-based research on how students learn best. He has also embraced the importance of diversity, inclusivity and cultural competencies as critical components for learning at Shorecrest through new faculty hires and additional programming for students.

“It is an honor to be a part of the Shorecrest community and I look forward to helping move our strategic plan forward,” says Dillow. “In my job here, I get to collaborate daily with a remarkably talented group of faculty, staff and administrators, who are unified in our efforts to develop responsible, intellectually curious, and globally competent young men and women. As a parent, I am likewise grateful that my own sons have had the opportunity to be mentored, challenged, and supported by these incredible teachers.”
