Matt's new website, HirePics, launching officially today, abandons the traditional text-driven navigation of directories like the Yellow Pages or Yahoo directory and instead puts the emphasis on photos.
HirePics helps users find things to hire in the UK, along with companies that can supply those things. Nothing too original there. But in place of the long list of categories typically found on directory-like sites, HirePics appeals to the more visually-inclined by showing a simple page of photos of products that can be hired.
Matt explains what he sees as the advantages of the new style of directory: "I'm hoping this new form of directory will help people discover things they wouldn't otherwise have found by navigating the kind of tree-like hierarchy you find in most directories. By focusing on images, the directory will be easier and more fun to use."
