Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Brigham Young University and previously worked as a financial analyst and accountant. Smith is involved heavily in local church activities, the American Red Cross blood drives, Habitat for Humanity and the North Carolina Senior Games. He currently resides in Raleigh.
