PR.com)-- This May 17, Haitians and non-Haitians alike in the Bay Area are coming together to celebrate Haitian Flag Day, which marks the 205th year of Haiti’s independence.
Kalbass, a high-energy local Haitian organization/band known for its commitment to promoting and creating awareness about Haitian culture in California, is organizing for the third year a Haitian Cultural Extravaganza at Ashkenaz in Berkeley.
Entertainment will be provided by Kalbass of which the repertoire stretches from traditional Haitian music styles such as Kompa and Rara to Zouk, Reggae, Salsa and Merengue.
Guest performances will be provided by the amazing Alafia Dance Ensemble from City College and by Master Haitian percussionist Jjakomo from Los Angeles. Special guest appearance by the well-known local Haitian Artist King Wawa.
The event is designed to give the audience an authentic taste of Haitian culture, from its people to its music and food. Haitian vegetarian dishes will be available at the celebration.
Proceeds from this event will benefit anti-deforestation efforts in Haiti.
