Diversity Alliance for Science Conference Names Dr. Gyan Prakash as Keynote Speaker

Morristown, NJ, May 15, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Diversity Alliance for Science (www.diversityallianceforscience.com) has announced that Dr. Gyan (John) Prakash, chief scientific officer and senior vice president of AMAR International, Inc., is the keynote speaker for the organization’s inaugural networking conference and expo scheduled for May 19-20 at the Westin Governor Morris in Morristown, N.J. The two-day event will focus on developing and integrating more minority, women and service-veteran disabled business owners into the life sciences space. Dr. Prakash will discuss the challenges he faced growing up as an immigrant in the United States and share how he successfully became not only the senior drug development expert at the Department of Health and Human Services, but also the nation’s first director of the Transformational Medical Technologies Initiative (TMTI), a pioneer national biodefense and biomedical product development at the Department of Defense.

The DA4S event will feature leaders from pharmaceuticals, government agencies, universities and contract research organizations addressing the needs for diversity in the life sciences industry. The comprehensive educational component, led by industry procurement, diversity and scientific leaders, will be held in the afternoon of May 19. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on May 20, formally kicking off the corporate tradeshow portion of the conference. The corporate tradeshow will provide corporations an opportunity to meet top minority, women and service-veteran disabled business owners and suppliers of products and services that support the clinical and scientific arena. Merck & Co., Inc. is the keynote sponsor for the event.

“We are excited to announce that Dr. Prakash will serve as the keynote speaker for the inaugural Diversity Alliance for Science Conference,” said Leah Brown, DA4S board member and president of Aten Solutions, Inc. “The challenges he faced growing up as an immigrant will serve as an inspiration for anyone trying to become successful in the life sciences industry.”
