TEACHING METHODS USED :
CA State Standards & Frameworks:
Standards encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level. Curriculum Frameworks are blueprints for implementing the content standards adopted by the California State Board of Education.
Gradual Release Theory:
Our ultimate goal is for students to read independently. This model is a gradual release of responsibility for reading from the teacher to the student. The process begins with the teacher doing read alouds (students listen & discuss). The second step is shared reading (students become more involved in the reading of the text). Next is guided reading (students do majority of the reading while the teacher individually guides them). The final step is independent reading (students do reading alone and then confer with the teacher).
Mathematics Instructional Modules:
NGLC has adopted the mathematics program used by SDUSD. In the San Diego Unified School District modules have been created to enhance the text books used. The publisher (Harcourt) has also created a California edition to fulfill the CA State Standards. These modules and the supplies we have at this school give students a variety of ways to see mathematical concepts.
Computer Technology Training:
This class will learn the basics of the computer. They will understand the basic parts of the computer, how to operate a standard PC (powering on/off, controlling a mouse, closing screens, using a search engine, printing, important keys and creating a PowerPoint presentation), and how to respect technology.
*Not only does NGLC abide by the CA state standards of education, they strive for students to reach all the goals they are capable of; even if they surpass kindergarten requirements.
