The Parent Coaching Institute Receives Grant to Support Families in Need at the YWCA

The Parent Coaching Institute (The PCI™) has been awarded a grant from The Norcliffe Foundation to continue its groundbreaking parent coaching services at the YWCA through March 2011.

Bellevue, WA, December 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Norcliffe Foundation has awarded The Parent Coaching Institute a $5,000 grant to support a group of parents identified as in need by the Eastside King County YWCA. These parents will receive parent coaching services through March 2011 from a PCI Certified Parent Coach®.

Gina deCampo, Assistant Director of Family Support at the YWCA, had tears in her eyes when she explained the success of The PCI’s parent coaching services. Feedback on The PCI’s previous group coaching at the YWCA from the parents served was much more positive than she anticipated, with an evaluation showing that parents made significant progress becoming more patient with their children and learning parenting techniques that reduced their own stress while meeting their children’s developmental needs in calm and appropriate ways. The PCI plans to conduct pre/post surveys and an independent evaluation of the parent coaching services being provided to these families.

The Norcliffe Foundation grant makes it possible to continue this innovative model of training highly qualified group coaches while serving families in need through pro bono parent coaching services. The Parent Coaching Institute, founded in 2000 by internationally known education expert, speaker and author Gloria DeGaetano, CEO, is giving shape to a burgeoning industry and creating new business and career opportunities for its graduates.

“There has never been a greater need or a better time for parent coaches,” says DeGaetano. “Families are struggling to cope with the stresses of our increasingly complex society, and the parent coaching model is proving to be a very effective way to help families flourish.”

Using evidence-based strategies and a well-researched framework for communication and analysis, PCI Certified Parent Coaches® work with families to help them evaluate their frame of reference and create awareness of new possibilities. In addition to working with parents directly, parent coaches offer their services to agencies, schools and businesses.

“Our coaches work from the heart and are highly skilled,” says DeGaetano. “The PCI attracts some of the best and brightest professionals in the nation, including teachers, social workers, counselors and other professionals who want to make a difference in the world. We’re very proud of our graduates and are excited about the possibilities that await them and the families they help.”

The PCI’s acclaimed distance-learning training program, offered in affiliation with Seattle Pacific University, is currently accepting applications for its 2011 Spring Quarter. For more information, visit www.ThePCI.org.
