Janis I Monroe Releases The History of Sackets Harbor, NY

The history of Sackets Harbor began in 1801 when a New York City lawyer, Augustus Sackett visited the open land off Lake Ontario's eastern shore. Never did he imagine his village would be involved in the War of 1812 and that his own house would be used a hospital during that war. But this was just the beginning of all that was to take place in the village's history.

Glenburn, ME, August 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Have you ever visited the historic village of Sackets Harbor, NY, located off the eastern end of Lake Ontario? If you have, then know about the village’s rich historical background. If you haven’t, there is a world to explore in the village, not only in its present state, but in its history.

In her new book, The History of Sackets Harbor, New York, author Janis I. Monroe, formerly of Watertown, New York, talks about the various areas of the history of the village of Sackets Harbor. She begins with the founding of the village in 1801 by New York City lawyer Augustus Sackett. Further chapters explore the village’s role in the War of 1812, The Battle of Big Sandy, when railroads came to the villages, fires that broke out, and the forts of the village.

The book will enlighten readers to Sackets Harbor’s history and the people who helped to build the village. Photographs accompany the writing and take you deeper into the history. The book is available in both paperback and Kindle editions.

Ms. Monroe created this book when she found there was not a book written about the history of Sackets Harbor and wanted to show people the history of the village and the importance of its existence in War History and American History.

Her connection to the village came when she went to school there and spent time there with friends. She picked up pieces of history along the years and continued to become even more curious about the full history behind the village. Sackets Harbor, NY is one of Ms. Monroe’s favorite places to be when she visits her family back in her hometown, of Watertown, NY.

Ms. Monroe currently lives in Maine and has published several articles for the Yahoo Contributor Network and has four poetry books published, and one memoir, besides The History of Sackets Harbor, New York. She has been writing since 1999, and continues to pursue this career.

Monroe is available for interviews via phone, Skype, email, snail mail, or instant messenger (Yahoo, Google Talk).
