)-- The Texas Back Institute is thrilled to share that Dr. Jack Zigler, Orthopedic Spine Surgeon in Plano, TX, has been named the new president of ISASS (the International Society for The Advancement of Spine Surgery) for the 2019/2020 year. ISASS announced the news during their annual conference on Thursday, March 3, 2019.
“My objective during my Presidency is to re-energize ISASS and bring it back to its roots in providing a forum for new technologies to be discussed and debated by international surgeons and scientists,” Dr. Zigler said.
ISASS’s mission is to provide patients access to the best surgical options when in need of spinal surgery. It has continued to serve as an educational forum for the advancement of newer techniques, such as minimally invasive spine surgery, robotics and navigation, and biologic interventions. The organization has over 3,000 members, with memberships in 78 countries. ISASS has had over 4,200 scientific papers presented, demonstrating the members’ dedication to research and to share spine intelligence throughout the medical field.
As a pioneer in spine care, Dr. Zigler has a long-list of accomplishments, which include being the first surgeon to implant the ProDisc lumbar artificial disc replacement surgery in the United States in 2001. . Dr. Zigler has served as president of the American Spinal Injury Association and on the board of the Cervical Spine Research Society.
“I hope to continue the strong tradition of leadership for this important organization that was started by some of the key innovators and leaders in international spine surgery,” Dr. Zigler said. "I would like to position ISASS over the next few years so that it becomes the ‘go-to’ society for those working to improve the lives of patients with degenerative spine conditions by the best possible surgical treatment."
