University of Maryland Baseball Begins Season on New Momentum™ from Sportexe®

Sportexe recently put the finishing touches on a new Momentum™ infield at the University of Maryland.

The new synthetic turf replaces Bermuda Grass on the Terrapins' Shipley Field, which has been home to Maryland baseball since 1965.

Momentum™ is a dense, firm and fast surface designed for high performance athletics, according to Sportexe President Mark Nicholls . Chosen by other elite teams, such as the Baltimore Ravens and University of California , Berkeley, Momentum™ is widely popular for professional and amateur athletics alike throughout North America.

"We're delighted to see Momentum™ underfoot of the University of Maryland Terps ," said Nicholls. "It's a tribute to the quality of our product - we look forward to seeing the team perform on the surface this season."

Shipley Field is located in the heart of the University of Maryland campus. The facility seats 2,500 and has played host to a variety of exhibition games, including one between the Terps and the Baltimore Orioles in 1982. In 1990 the Soviet baseball team took on the University of Maryland in an exhibition series.

The field, named after legendary Terps' coach H. Burton Shipley, has proved to be a good venue for the team, as they've logged only five losing seasons on it in the past 39 years
