Latane grew up in Virginia Beach, VA. He attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia and graduated with a double major in Finance and Marketing Information Systems. Latane spent 2 years in the Marketing & Sales department at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Washington, DC. After experiencing the corporate side of the business world, he moved out to San Diego in February of 2003 where he took over the marketing department at VAVI.
