Inductive Automation was founded with the idea that industrial control systems and enterprise management systems should not be separate. By leveraging standard IT technologies to break the mold of proprietary, monolithic control system software that the industry is so accustomed to, Inductive Automation has been warmly received by IT departments and plant managers everywhere.
The company was formed in 2003, under the guidance of an experienced systems integrator... someone who intimately knew the challenges of industrial automation, and the limitations of current software on the market. A prototype version of FactorySQL was developed, and was overwhelmingly welcomed by the field. With bi-directional synchronization between PLC controllers and industry standard databases, a whole new world of possibilites opened up. Users started leveraging a number of common technologies such as ASP, PHP, and others to provide user interfaces to the plant floor as well as other corporate data. However, demand quickly grew for a more powerful solution with true HMI characteristics - one that would enable rapid development, widespread distribution, and powerful performance. The development team was expanded, and FactoryPMI was soon under way.
Since the initial stages of completion, both FactorySQL and FactoryPMI have found a solid position in the market, being used to develop many complete solutions in a wide variety of applications. From process monitoring & control, to down time tracking, recipe management, all the way to monitoring & controlling one of the largest light rail systems in the US, FactorySQL and FactoryPMI are gaining market share rapidly.
