Data Protection Solutions (DPS) Delivers Disk-to-Disk (D2D), Serial ATA (SATA) Disk Mirroring Solution in Industry’s Smallest Footprint

The SATA FlexMount™ brings edge of the network device manufacturers and integrators in Point of Sale, Imaging, Telecommunication and other industries fault tolerant, continuous data protection solutions that meet performance, cost and space constraints

Hollywood, FL, June 29, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Data Protection Solutions (DPS), formerly known as Arco, the global and leading provider of disk-to-disk (D2D), continuous data protection solutions designed for data mirroring, backup, and bare metal restore for devices at the edge of the network, now delivers its patented disk mirroring (RAID solution) technology in a Serial ATA (SATA) technology format to address the industry’s opportunity and concerns. A pioneer in the data protection industry, DPS has taken advantage of the smaller connector, cabling and the increased performance characteristics made available via the SATA technology. DPS is currently reshaping the server and storage industry by supplying customers with device space constraints, and high transaction processing, in demanding environments such as Wayne Dresser’s, with the SATA FlexMount™ solution.

DPS’s SATA Flex Mount™ solution, the only solution of its kind on the market today, fits easily into any device with a size that is similar to a deck of playing cards. “We’ve addressed the need for reliability, protection of the device data and extreme constraints of our customers first and foremost while delivering a technology that offers more room for them to advance,” noted Steve Hammond, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing. “The SATA FlexMount™ solution provides our customers who develop Retail POS, Medical Imaging, Telecommunications and other industries with a ruggedized, easy to install and maintain solution, at the lowest cost of ownership and the highest reliability.” DPS delivered the SATA FlexMount™ solution based on the FlexMount™ solution, which enjoys a large install base over several years.

About SATA FlexMount™

SATA FlexMount™ is encased in a high-impact plastic shell, protecting and insulating the unit from system heat and from damage that could potentially result from other electrical components in the system. Attaching easily and virtually anywhere in a system, the cables connect to both primary and secondary drive through the SATA connectors as well as the power. Extending out from the SATA FlexMount™, an optional LED bracket may be mounted to the back of the system so that a serial port, status lights and alarm reset button may be accessed.

The benefits of this product are as follows; it is completely OS and platform independent, supports two drives (primary and mirror) of any capacity or brand and offers visual and audio alarms as well as e-mail notifications. In addition, SATA FlexMount™ will automatically fail-over when a drive failure occurs, and when a drive is replaced, it will rebuild automatically in the background. It is also hardware independent, with a compact design (2.2” x 3.5”) supporting drive capacity up to 144 petabytes.

About DPS’s Technology

SATA FlexMount™ leverages a well established and patented Duplidisk3® Technology offering several advantages such as Auto-Fail Over and Notification, Block Level Mirroring, direct connection to an ATA Bus and its Hardware-Based RAID. In the event of a drive failure, the Auto-Fail Over and Notification allows your system to continue running by automatically switching operations to the remaining drives and alerting you both visually and audibly. At the Block Level, data is written simultaneously and securely to two drives, maintaining constant mirroring of all data. As a result, this technology works with all types of data, drive formats and partitioning schemes. SATA FlexMount™ connects directly to the ATA/IDE Bus of the host computer, requiring no IRQs or tray resources. Finally, it is Hardware-Based RAID; therefore there is no impact, such as reduction in speed, on the system’s performance.

About Serial ATA

According to the InfoPro, in the April 2005 issue of Storage Magazine, SATA Drive is the top priority as noted by the Storage Technology Heat Index. Compared to existing Parallel ATA, SATA delivers nearly a 10% faster average time to data and over 25% higher maximum sustained data transfer rate. SATA has quickly proven itself to be an ideal technology for edge of the network devices requiring backup and high availability, which is vital to industries like Retail POS. Finally, SATA promises lower cost of ownership with comparable reliability and faster performance.

About Data Protection Solutions

Headquartered in South Florida and founded in 1989, DPS is a data protection technology provider, offering many unique and patented technologies. Both the company’s disk mirroring RAID controller and EzBackupTM disk-to-disk (D2D) product lines, powered by the company’s patented DupliDisk technology, are designed to preserve the value of personal and corporate data. Data values are growing exponentially, and the high failure rate of tape-based backups and restores are a more serious threat to these values than ever. D2D backup provides cost-effective backup and storage up to terabyte capacity. It is now recognized as the “fail-safe” solution to data protection for SMB and SOHO applications and is also found in robust enterprise settings. The company serves the market through OEM relationships, distributors such as Tech Data Corporation and D&H Distributing, as well as system integrators and value-added resellers throughout the United States, Europe and the Far East.
