Sculptor Mark Weisbeck Introduces a 21st Century Cross to Honor 21st Century Pope Francis
In honor of the newly elected Pontiff, Pope Francis, the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church, international award winning sculptor Mark Weisbeck of Weisbeck Design introduces the new 21st century cross, presenting a bold leap forward for modern religious art.
Honeoye, NY, March 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Choosing his name after St. Francis of Assisi, the former Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina is a humble man and the first Latin American pontiff. To celebrate the new Pope’s leading the world’s 1.2 billion Roman Catholics into the 21st century, sculptor Mark Weisbeck is honored to present his new design of the contemporary cross.
The only sculptor in the world to represent New York State in the Beijing Olympics Landscape Sculpture Competition, award winning Mark Weisbeck has created a dramatically new concept for the 21st century cross. The base of the New Cross is hand crafted using two elegant pieces, instead of one. The two sections represent the unity of all people of the world, working in harmony toward global peace.
Elegant, sophisticated and modern, the new 21st Century Cross is available in blue/green patinaed brass or 24 karat gold leafed brass. Sizes available are from 18 inches, for a tabletop cross, to 30 feet tall, for an inspirational monument.
Prices start at $800.00 USD for a tabletop cross with a patina finish and $900.00 USD for a gold leaf cross. All are signed by the artist and are placed on an American hardwood cherry base to protect the desktop. For those who are not of the Catholic faith, the graceful sculpture may look like the wind in the sails of a stylized sailboat.
A plaque with a name or dedication may be added to the base.
Mark Weisbeck has been commissioned by the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Department of State to create large scale public sculptures. His work can be found in the Changchun World Sculpture Park in China and worldwide. Weisbeck is also an award winning modern product designer, whose desktop furnishings have been sold by the Museum of Modern Art, New York and worldwide.
