Publicity and Branding Consultant Shares PR Best Practices with Entrepreneurs at Groundwork Labs
Durham, NC, July 30, 2014 --(PR.com
)-- Innovative Public Relations President David Menzies shared PR best practices with members of the Groundwork Labs entrepreneurial community Wednesday July 23 at the American Underground in Durham.
The 22+ year award-winning communicator was invited to speak to the group of up-and-coming technology entrepreneurs working to test their ideas and get expert guidance before taking their businesses to the next step.
After explaining how PR, marketing, and advertising work together to tell a business’ story, Menzies gave an overview of the essential elements of a public relations campaign and expanded on how to use PR to connect with prospects and customers.
A substantive Q&A session followed, and Menzies then hosted individual team members seeking more detailed counseling sessions for two hours in one of Groundwork Labs’ offices.
Since launching in February 2012, more than 60 companies have been through Groundwork Labs, with 15 having raised more than $1.5 million in equity funding and awarded $1.1 million in grants.
Current companies active with Groundwork Labs include Greenshoot (cloud-based recovery), HealthyBytes (nutrition software), AnyCloud (consumer content aggregator), EyeScribes (automated clinical documentation) and Cellbreaker (cell phone contracts tool). Groundwork is also hosting five teams from North Carolina universities participating in a summer program including 501 Carbon (neutralizing carbon footprint), Video Collaboratory (video annotation), Undercover Colors (preventing drug-facilitated sexual assault), Omni Thrive (educational video game for cancer patients) and Contour Medical (rib spreader device).

About Groundwork Labs
Groundwork Labs is a program for selected entrepreneurs to test their idea and get expert guidance before they take their next step, whether that be getting their first round of funding, gaining admission to an accelerator, or bootstrapping their company to revenue. We share many characteristics of a technology accelerator: highly selective, mentoring, connections, advice, and are an intense two to four month period. But we do not take an equity stake or make an investment. We offer our program at no charge through the support of NC IDEA, a not for profit whose mission is helping startups in North Carolina. We are located in the American Underground in Durham, the epicenter of North Carolina entrepreneurial activity. Since launching in February 2012, more than 60 companies have been through our program. Seven of those companies have won NC IDEA grants and seven have been accepted into accelerators. 15 of our companies have in total raised more than $1.5 million in equity funding and been awarded $1.1 million in grants.
