Exciting New Appointments Announced by Blade of Grass Holdings

Blade of Grass Holdings (SongFreedom, U Management, Fyrfly, etc.) is thrilled to announce the appointments of Jason Groupp as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Steve Merckel as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

New York, NY, March 07, 2017 --(PR.com)-- Blade of Grass Holdings (SongFreedom, U Management, Fyrfly, etc.) is thrilled to announce the appointments of Jason Groupp as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Steve Merckel as Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

Fresh off of his Director role at WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) and PPE (Photo Plus Expo), Jason Groupp joins Blade of Grass Holdings (BOGH) as CMO to steer the company’s overall marketing efforts, as well as act as one of the liaisons of the company’s ambassador programs. "I'm so excited to be joining BOGH,” exclaims Groupp. “CEO Matt Thompson and I have been friends for over seven years and have collaborated on many projects together. We’ve spent countless hours brainstorming about various projects and it’s a dream come true to be able to work full time with the team. I’m also looking forward to working in a more entrepreneurial environment. My time working on both WPPI and PPE were invaluable, but I’m just a small business guy who thrives on making quick decisions and moving fast in a creative environment.”

Groupp, who studied fashion photography and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and then went on to run a successful studio in Chelsea for 25 years before joining Emerald Expositions as the Director of Education and Membership 4 ½ years ago, is a perfect fit for this new venture, especially given his creative nature and deep love of music. “My mom was a fashion designer and my dad was a sound engineer for John Lennon and The New York Dolls in the 70’s, so we were always surrounded by musicians and my love of music was formed at an early age,” he explains. “Intertwining music into my own work to help emphasize my storytelling has always been an important part of my creative process, so I’m excited about our new FyrFly launch, which will pair music and imagery via a brand new slideshow application. I am looking forward to working with both photographers and filmmakers in helping them reach their audiences in new and unique ways.”

Steve Merckel joins Blade of Grass Holdings (BOGH) as their new CTO. He will direct all technology and software development initiatives to improve existing value chains, and guide the company down exciting new opportunities. “Each division of BOGH provides unique products and services to underserved markets, and their growth over the past seven years clearly shows the confidence that their customers place on them,” says Merckel. “The upcoming Fyrfly launch will provide a significant platform for creative professionals to upload, host, and promote their video projects. I’m also excited to direct the conception of a browser-based slideshow creation tool - all from concept to completion. Stay tuned for more news on both of these products!”

Merckel graduated from Missouri State University, and has been working in the IT industry for the past 14 years. His role has steadily grown from a developer position into senior and team leadership positions, and has worked for companies ranging from small entrepreneurs to large enterprises. Over that time he has delivered stable, exciting, and responsive products that are relied on by customers nationally and around the globe. “I love creating software and workflows that provide simplicity and transparency to the difficult, and look forward to leading BOGH toward new capabilities for their customers and employees,” says Merckel. “The customers behind BOGH’s successes are extremely creative individuals that are looking for pragmatic solutions to challenges in their professional lives. I look forward to partnering with them to deliver compelling products through enabling technologies.”

Says CEO Thompson, “We are incredibly excited and energized with the addition of Jason and Steve, as well as other new team members. Their talent and deep understanding of market needs will be crucial to the next phases of growth for our group of companies. Acquiring significant funding is important, but is meaningless if the right people are not in place to execute the vision. Jason and Steve are those right people. 2017 will be the best year ever for our clients and partners spanning the globe.”
