Web Courseworks Recognized for Prestigious Interactive Media Awards

Web Courseworks wins at the 7th Annual Horizon Interactive awards competition for its innovative immersive learning simulation. Web Coursework’s game-based learning practice has produced web-delivered simulations for national clients since 2003.

Madison, WI, June 04, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The Horizon Interactive Awards, a leading international interactive media awards competition, announced that Web Courseworks has won two 2008 awards in interactive media production. Web Courseworks, an innovative learning services provider, was recognized for their excellence with a Silver award for the Training category for Tap Into More Tips and a Silver award in the Game category for Tips on Tap.

Web Courseworks created an immersive learning simulation, or a Flash game with three levels, for Miller Brewing Company that revolved around the skills and techniques needed for bartender services. Designed for adult learners, “Tips on Tap” used educational gaming principles to reinforce good customer service and proper draught beer serving techniques. This use of a game-based learning method trained the learners not only through game tutorials and the gaming process but also through the inherent reward system of the game: good customer service earned the points—in tips—required to win the game.

"We are honored to have been awarded two Horizon Silver awards," Web Courseworks CEO Jon Aleckson said. "Our team of web programmers, illustrators, and writers successfully created a cutting-edge training tool for the food and beverage industry. The three level interactive game and web site with 23 informative videos and two exams represents the evolution of employee training at innovative companies like Miller Brewing Company.”

The seventh annual, international competition saw just over 1000 entries from 20 countries around world. The judging process involves a Horizon Interactive Awards advisory panel, end user panel and a worldwide panel of judges consisting of industry professionals. Winning entries are dubbed the “best of the best” in the interactive media industry. The complete list of winners is located at www.horizoninteractiveawards.com.

“The 2008 competition was the most competitive to date. The work in this year’s competition is at such a high level that the judges really had their work cut out for them,” said Mike Sauce, founder of the Horizon Interactive Awards. “All of the winning entries displayed a high level of sophistication, aesthetic creativity, technical excellence and clear purpose.“
